Introduction
CB2 module is the second iteration of T2T’s “CB” (Cerebellum) series modules designed to enhance microcontroller (MCU) performance. The core function of the CB modules is to provide MCUs with accelerated reflexes for seamless coordination with a diverse range of peripherals. Essentially, it acts as a high-speed interface layer, enabling faster communication and control—crucial in applications demanding quick response times and efficient data handling between the MCU and external devices. This allows developers to build more responsive and reliable embedded systems.
Technical capabilities of the CB2, including
-
High-Performance Control: The use of RP2040/RP2350 microcontrollers with dual ARM Cortex-M0+ cores allows for real-time tasks like flight stabilization and telemetry monitoring.
-
Modular and Stackable Design: The CB2 features a 40-pin GPIO layout and mounting holes compatible with Raspberry Pi, allowing for easy stacking and expansion.
-
Easy Programming: The CB2 can be programmed via a drag-and-drop UF2 bootloader over USB, and firmware updates can be deployed over the air (OTA).
-
Software Ecosystem: The “Tic Tac Toe” (TiC-TaC-ToE) system includes an embedded system (ToE), a powerful base station software stack (TiC), and an application client (TaC) that supports multiple platforms.

Core Objectives and Improvements from CB1
The primary goals for the CB2 product line are to:
- Rich GPIOs capable for different products.
- As an alternative to ESP32 or the other MCUs but also with storing support from the community.
- Offer richer connectivity interfaces, such as WiFi, BLE, and USB.
- Support a wider variety of peripherals, including color/light/IR sensors, LED/OLED screens, and NFC functionality.
- Can be customized as a motor controller of 16 motors with one MCU.
- Implement a new single-board design with connectors to minimize soldering during final assembly, moving away from the previous double-board structure.
- Provide backward compatibility with existing CB1 hardware and applications with an extension board. This will be achieved by redesigning shields to fit the various dimensions and mounting points of previous Smart Brick products.
